Questions

  1. What is VoIP

VoIP is essentially a method for taking analog audio signals, like the kind you hear when you talk on the phone, and turning them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet.

While you are speaking, this type of transmission is more often than not point-to-point. i.e. your VoIP phone talking directly to your friends VoIP phone.

However to get to this point a few things must take place.

  2. What is ENUM

Electronic Numbering (ENUM or Enum) is a suite of protocols to unify the telephone system with the Internet by using E.164 addresses with DDDS and DNS.

The acronymn ENUM can also mean "E164 NUmber Mapping."

SIP Broker provides a seamless ENUM lookup of all the major ENUM roots. If a free call is available, SIP Broker will connect you using the free route.

  6. One Way Audio - How Do I Fix

One way audio is usually a firewall / NAT related issue.

The proven effective way to resolve this is to use a STUN server.

Try adding these settings to your phone / adapter.

    • NAT Mapping Enable: Yes

    • STUN Enable: Yes
    • STUN Server: stun.voxalot.com:3478

  7. HowTo: Dialing using a provider SIP-Code?

    • First find the provider SIP-Code you want to call. Search for it here. If it does not exist, ask the person you want to call to register or add the proxy yourself. This will enable SIP Broker to automatically allocate a SIP-Code, or you can simply email requesting the provider to be added.
    • Once you have the SIP-Code, just call the recipients number with the SIP-Code as a prefix.

e.g. SIP-Code for call receiver is *123 and their number is 5551234. Just dial *123-5551234.

  8. HowTo: Dialing using a SIP Broker Alias?

    • First you must already know or find the SIP Broker alias for person you want to call. If the person has added themselves to the White Pages, you can search for the alias here.
    • Once you have the alias, just call *011-<alias>.

e.g. SIP Broker alias for call receiver is "15551234" dial *011-15551234.

  9. Why Does SIP Broker Report 'invalid realm/domain'?

SIP Broker attempts to verify your domain upon registration. If your domain is not valid or the request timed out, SIP Broker will return this message.

Most of the time, a simple retry is the solution, however if you keep getting this message please email requesting the provider to be added.

  10. How Does SIP Broker Allocate SIP-Codes?

SIP Broker allows the user community to build the list of SIP-Codes. Upon registration, SIP Broker checks if your realm exists and creates one if it doesn't exist.

A SIP-Code is created and made active in real time. If you are a provider and wish for your SIP-Code to be changed, please email with your request.

  11. How Do I Add A [Home] and [Rates] Link To My Provider?

Again SIP Broker allows the user community to manange this. Just log onto SIP Broker and visit http://www.sipbroker.com/sipbroker/action/realm to make your changes.
